Prior to Spaced, Frost shared a flat with Simon Pegg, his best friend and fellow star of the show. He worked as a waiter and his acting experience consisted of minor roles in corporate training video clips, and minor roles in Casualty (1994) and Big Train (1998). The director of Spaced, Edgar Wright, was initially wary of hiring Frost for the role of Mike Watt, but was convinced to by Pegg as the role was based on a character of Frost's and the role was written for him.
After his role on Spaced, Frost would return to play major roles in Wright's later projects, such as playing leading roles in Wright's and Pegg's Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy (also known as the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy). He portrayed Ed in Shaun of the Dead and PC Danny Butterman in Hot Fuzz.
