Battles is the fourth episode of Series One of Spaced.
Overview[]
Richard breaks off his and Daisy's relationship. Much to Tim's dismay, she decides to adopt a dog. Meanwhile Tim and Mike go paintballing and encounter the man Sarah left him for, Duane Benzie.
Synopsis[]
Daisy is on the phone to her boyfriend Richard, explaining that she has moved on from him and they should break up. As it transpires, however, Richard is the one doing the dumping, leaving Daisy heartbroken. To try and cheer herself up she enlists Twists help in adopting a dog from a shelter. After meeting a Miniature Schnauzer and learning that it is soon to be put down, Daisy immediately adopts him and names him Colin, after the pet box she had as a child. Tim is not impressed, citing his childhood fear of dogs (which is inferred to have begun as an indirect result of a young Daisy trying to befriend the neighbourhood dogs).
Tim and Mike are looking forward to a day of paintballing, but find themselves on the same team as Duane Benzie, the man who stole Tim's old girlfriend, Sarah. When Duane catches Tim alone in the woods he attempts to shoot him the head, but both men find themselves out of ammunition. As Duane reloads and prepares to fire, Mike comes running in and dives in front of Tim, throwing him a pair of loaded paint guns and taking Duane's fire instead. Tim retaliates by shooting Duane in the testicles, requiring him to be taken off the field in an ambulance. Mike 'dies' in Tim's arms, then the two return home satisfied.
